Michaela Jones, viola

Jordi Bitlloch, piano

Michaela Jones is a 22-year-old Welsh violist who began playing the viola during her time living in Singapore. In 2019 she performed in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, which was one of her most fulfilling musical experiences as a young musician. Michaela is currently rehearsing and performing with the BBC Philharmonic as a part of the BBC Philharmonic Professional Experience Scheme.

Jordi Bitlloch was born in France in a musical family and attended the Yehudi Menuhin School in Surrey as a teenager and later the University of Arts in Berlin where he earned undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in performance. His international breakthrough came when he won second prize and audience prize at the International Beethoven Competition in Bonn. He has performed throughout Europe as a soloist and chamber musician.

Classical Cleveland began as Classics at Kirkleatham on the 29th January 1999, 25 years ago almost to the day. That first concert featured a viola & piano duo. We are delighted to welcome the latest viola & piano duo from the RNCM and especially pleased that Michaela and Jordi have chosen to play Schumann's Marchenbilder, which featured in that very first programme.

Programme:

  • Rebecca Clarke - Viola Sonata

  • Bach -  Violin Partita no. 2 arr. for viola, 1st movement

  • Schumann  - Viola Sonata ‘Marchenbilder’.

Tickets £10 available online via TicketSource or at the door.
